What is WebP conversion?
WebP typically produces images 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPEG at comparable quality, which is why switching a page's images to WebP is one of the cheapest performance wins available. This tool converts PNG, JPG and other formats to WebP entirely in your browser — drop the files in, set the quality, download the results.
The quality setting behaves like JPEG quality: values around 75 to 85 are the sweet spot for photos, while screenshots and graphics with sharp edges tolerate lower values before artifacts appear. Transparent PNGs keep their transparency, since WebP supports an alpha channel — no background fill needed, unlike JPG.
Batch conversion is built in: select many files at once and, when more than one image is converted, the results are bundled into a single ZIP for a one-click download. Because decoding and re-encoding run locally through the browser's canvas, your images never touch a server — useful for client work, unreleased screenshots or anything you simply do not want to upload.
Boundaries worth knowing: the conversion is lossy by default, so keep originals for future re-editing, and browsers from before 2020 cannot display WebP — if your audience includes them, serve a JPEG fallback alongside.
