What is JPG to PNG conversion?

JPEG and PNG solve different problems, and converting from one to the other is a small operation with a few non-obvious reasons behind it. This tool converts your JPG images to PNG format, processing them in your browser with nothing uploaded anywhere.

Why convert? The most common reason is transparency support: PNG has a proper alpha channel and JPEG does not, so any workflow that needs transparent regions — logos placed over other graphics, stickers, overlays for video — starts by converting the source to PNG. The second reason is generational loss: JPEG is lossy, and every re-save compounds compression artifacts; converting to PNG gives you a lossless container, so subsequent edits, crops, and re-saves no longer degrade the image. Set expectations honestly: converting a JPEG to PNG does not recover quality that JPEG compression already discarded. Artifacts baked into the original remain. What you get is a faithful copy in a lossless format, typically at a larger file size — PNG files of photographic content run considerably bigger than their JPEG equivalents, sometimes several times so. That is the price of lossless storage, and it is usually worth paying for images you intend to keep editing.
