What is Extract Audio from Video?

Half the value of many videos is in the audio track: the lecture you want to listen to during a commute, the podcast recorded on video, the interview whose transcript is waiting to happen, the song from a wedding video you want to keep. This tool separates the audio from a video file and hands it to you as a standalone audio file, in the format you choose.

Three output formats cover the realistic use cases. MP3 at 192 kbps is the universal choice — playable by literally everything, small enough to sync anywhere, and transparent enough for spoken word and casual music listening. WAV is uncompressed PCM, the format you want for further editing in an audio editor, for transcription tools that prefer raw quality, or for archiving the original sound without any additional loss. AAC stream copy is the fastest option: when the video's audio is already AAC (true of nearly all phone footage and screen recordings), the track is copied out byte-for-byte with no re-encoding at all.

Extraction runs in your browser through a WebAssembly FFmpeg — the video is loaded into memory on your own machine, and no file is uploaded to any server. A one-hour lecture extracts in seconds, because in most cases the tool is only unpacking an existing stream, not re-processing it.

One boundary to understand: extraction takes the audio that exists. It cannot improve a poor recording — if the source video has wind noise or a bad microphone, those flaws come along for the ride. And if a video genuinely has no audio track, there is nothing to extract; the tool will come up empty rather than inventing silence.
